Start 2026 off to a good start with some literary citizen vibes. We know how hard it is to attempt to leave the house during the Big Dark... but if you need a physical break from the same four walls, or could stand for a virtual or podcast escape, we got you covered.

The podcast's new producer, Fermented Fiction, offers two editions with each episode: a livestream and a recorded show.

It's the first monthly Discord Submission Party of the season!🎉

Need to start off the year with a renewed enthusiasm for submitting your work? You don't have to do it alone! And it can actually be fun!

All you have to do is show up and start submitting work. Feel free to enjoy an adult beverage or snack while you're there! Chatter and engagement encouraged. Report your completed submissions to the chat and receive a cheerful reward!

It's also a great time to:

  • bring your questions about markets

  • untangle any problems you have with submitting/tracking your work

  • celebrate your wins

  • sing the rejection sad trombone blues among a sympathetic crowd!

This is a low-commitment, super-chill time to interact with your peers and get your work out into the world! Hosted by member Tamara Kaye Sellman, who previously contributed to the Waverly Fitzgerald submission party gatherings at the Hugo House.

No pressure! Come and go as you please!

Log in at the Submissions Party voice channel in Discord; the room will be open from 6-730pm.

SATURDAY JANUARY 24, 2025, 10 to 1130am

Join Perla X. Caballero with the Seattle Horror Book Club in a guided discussion of Isabel Cañas' The Hacienda, a recent title compared to both Rebecca and Mexican Gothic. Could be a great way to warm up during the darkest, coldest part of the PNW winter! We'll meet at the downtown branch of the Seattle Public Library; note the morning time. Please RSVP to help the library pick the best room to meet.

WEDNESDAY JANUARY 28, 2025

Have you ever wanted to write a dark and spooky short speculative play?

Seattle HWA co-chair Erik Keevan is leading a virtual workshop through the Gamut Literary Series at UW Bothell that you'll want to register for.

The session promises to give writers the tools they need, with a focus on form and character building. There will be prompts to start working on a new piece as well.

The event is free but requires registration in order for participants to receive materials. There will be a link to sign up posted by January 15; stay tuned here or in the Discord for when that goes live.
