CITADEL MORNING* WRITE-IN
It's our second live Discord write-in featuring the most recent prompt from The Citadel.
Participate live by logging into the Discord "Citadel_write-in" Voice Channel [join here]
Drop in for a little Pomodoro action hosted by member Tamara Kaye Sellman. We'll use the month's prompt from the Citadel oracle deck by Fez Inkwright to inspire brand-new work or enliven works in progress. Or, you can just join us and write using your own prompts; this is a low-commitment, super-chill time to devote to getting words on the page. No pressure! Come and go as you please; the room will be open from 10am to 1130am* and we'll follow this schedule:

FALL BACK IN LOVE WITH DARK SHADOWS reading & Curse of Dark Shadows book launch— 630pm
"Fall Back in Love with Dark Shadows" features a live reading of Episode 349 of DARK SHADOWS with HWA members Craig Hurd-McKenney and Brianna Malotke to mark the 60th anniversary of the series.

Event also featurings a Q&A and the launch and signing of Hurd-McKenney's new book, Curse of Dark Shadows.
Event sponsored by HWA members Haunted Burrow Books and hosted at Kirkland Arts Center.

It's our second monthly Discord Submission Party!🎉
Need to start off the year with a renewed enthusiasm for submitting your work? You don't have to do it alone! And it can actually be fun!
All you have to do is show up and start submitting work in the company of others in the live Discord. Feel free to enjoy an adult beverage or snack while you're there! Chatter and engagement encouraged. Report your completed submissions to the chat and receive a cheerful reward!
It's also a great time to:
bring your questions about markets
untangle any problems you have with submitting/tracking your work
celebrate your wins
sing the rejection sad trombone blues among a sympathetic crowd!
This is a low-commitment, super-chill time to interact with your peers and get your work out into the world! Hosted by member Tamara Kaye Sellman, who previously contributed to the Waverly Fitzgerald submission party gatherings at the Hugo House.

SUBMIT TO THE CRYPTICON CONTEST!
No more procrastination! This is the final day to submit to the contest for Camp Crypticon's third anthology!
If you're an author local to Seattle, this is a great opportunity to get published alongside our contracted professional writers, to punch your ticket for the entire Crypticon Seattle weekend, and to earn a cash prize.

PAGETURNER BOOKS HOSTS A CHAPTER READING EVENT

Several members of our local chapter will be celebrated at one of our biggest bookseller supporters, PageTurner Books in Kent. Come support your community, browse their burgeoning "local authors" horror section, buy some books, and listen to some great work!

SEATTLE HORROR BOOK CLUB: I WISH I WAS LIKE YOU — 4 to 530pm
Join Perla X. Caballero with the Seattle Horror Book Club to discuss this 2017 title from the American horror author and playwright SP Miskowski.

MOON CYCLES QUARTERLY READING — 630pm
For 2026, we'll be exploring the cycles of the moon in our quarterly HWA member reading at the Kirkland Arts Center.
This February, we'll start "in the dark" with stories and poems featuring the New Moon. Come one, come all: event starts at 630pm!
